About Vettly
Last updated 14 October 2026
Vettly is a UK car check website. Enter a registration and see what the official records say about the vehicle, in plain English.
Why we built it
Buying a used car is a big decision, and the most expensive problems are often the ones you cannot see: finance still owed on the car, a history as an insurance write-off, a stolen marker, or mileage that has been wound back.
Vettly is here to help you avoid buying a car like that. We put the official records in plain English and show every reason behind the Vettly Score, so you can see exactly what we found and decide for yourself.
How it works
- Free check. Registered details, tax and MOT status from the DVLA, and the MOT history from the DVSA: every test since 2005, the mileage at each one, and every advisory and failure. We add a vehicle tax estimate, running costs, a clean air zone check and the Vettly Score.
- Full history check, £4.49. Outstanding finance, insurance write-offs, stolen and scrapped markers, previous keepers, plate changes, mileage records, a valuation and more, from a licensed vehicle data supplier that draws on finance company records, the insurance industry's write-off register and police stolen vehicle records.
- Free MOT and tax reminders. Add a car to your free account and we email you before its MOT or tax is due.
- Plate scanner. Point your phone camera at a number plate instead of typing the registration.

Every reason, shown
The Vettly Score starts at 100 and takes off points for each thing a buyer should worry about. Every deduction is listed on the report with the reason for it, so the score is never a black box. It is an automated summary of the records, not advice.
What a check cannot do
A check tells you what the records say, not what condition the car is in. It does not replace inspecting the car, a test drive, or checking the V5C logbook and service history. It does not include service records held by garages or the manufacturer, and it is not insurance or a warranty.
